Within this demanding and challenging environment, a career opportunity exists within our Engineering Department, Pumps and Controls Section.
Duties: This is an entry to mid-level technical and administrative position that performs moderately complex work. Working under the direction of the Pumps & Controls Manager, you will perform technical work related to the operations of a variety of City engineering activities and projects specifically related to pumps & control support systems for water, sewer and drainage.
Educational Requirements: The successful candidate will have a diploma in Mechanical or Civil Engineering Technology or a related field from an accredited technical institute; eligible for registration as a Technician or Technologist in the A.S.T.T.B.C.; have familiarity with municipal water, sewer and drainage pumps & controls support system functions; related administrative and public relations experience; superior organizational, interpersonal and communications skills; a demonstrated ability to develop and implement maintenance programs and schedules; a sound knowledge and ability to operate computer equipment and software as applied to the work performed. Proficiency in Microsoft Office is also required.
Skill Requirements: Preference may be given to applicants with demonstrated experience working within a municipal engineering operations and services environment. Knowledge of motors, pumps, pump station controls and pump station operations is a definite asset and will be considered in lieu of municipal experience.
Additional Information: Applicants must possess the ability to communicate and deal effectively with a wide range of individuals and groups including the general public, internal municipal staff and elected officials, and external private and government agencies. A valid BC Driver’s license is also required.
