Transportation Planning Section Manager

The Transportation Planning Section Manager is accountable to the Manager, Transportation Division for the management and technical direction of the Transportation Planning Section. As a senior member of the Transportation Division, you will ensure that transportation, traffic and transit systems can function safely, effectively and efficiently within the City through planning, review and implementation of the necessary programs and projects.

Some duties and responsibilities will include: Managing, directing and controlling the activities of the Transportation Planning Section staff including, recommending priorities, assigning duties and responsibilities, maintaining an establishment of personnel who are capable of effectively accomplishing work plans, programs, objectives and expectations and determining the future workload, staffing requirements and needs for the section; providing technical leadership to the Transportation Planning Section which is clear in its vision and direction yet remains flexible in its strategies; identifying, preparing and presenting to the Manager Transportation annual programs for resources and projects requiring funding or other approval; determining, organizing and managing the resources which are required to fulfill approved programs effectively and efficiently; directing and supervising professional, technical and support staff in the Transportation Planning Section; ensuring that optimum solutions are implemented in the execution of work plans, programs and projects through proactive communication, cooperation, coordination, facilitation, integration and negotiation with ??? internal sections/divisions of the Engineering Department, other Municipal departments, external private agencies/individuals,(e.g. developers, citizens, consultants, community and business associations) and other public agencies (e.g. TransLink, MOT, other municipalities, School Board and RCMP).

The successful candidate will have a University degree preferably in civil engineering; membership or ability to become a member in the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of BC; a minimum of 15 years of transportation and progressively responsible management experience. Experience at a senior management level in a public environment is an asset. You will also have thorough knowledge of; Labour and W.C.B regulations; design standards associated with TAC, MOT and the MMCD; and the principles and practices associated with Transportation Engineering. Excellent communication skills both written and oral are required, along with the ability to effectively present information to large audiences.
