Out of School Care Instructor – Winter 2010
(Auxiliary)
The Out of School Care Instructor is responsible for carrying out a variety of educational, recreational and cultural programming duties related to planning, developing, facilitating and implementing courses for school-aged children (six to twelve years old). Working with groups of children, the Out of School Care Instructor will conduct individual and/or group activities to encourage learning and develop social interaction skills in areas such as sports, arts & crafts, music, dance and cooking.
You will promote positive social experiences; respect for others and self-sufficiency and provide experiences and play materials that actively promotes diversity. You will be responsible for the arrangement, appearance and learning environment of the classroom including checking that activity areas, toys and equipment are safe and sanitary and setting up and tidying up of activity area, and will ensure the safety and general well being of the children at all times. In this capacity, you will be expected to promote and enhance creative ideas in all program areas i.e. arts & crafts, dramatic play, music appreciation, science and nature, and sports’ activities.
Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent is required in addition to at least two years experience building positive, respectful and supportive relationships with children, families, colleagues and other service providers in the community that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. A valid and up-to-date First Aid certificate is required. A comprehensive understanding of activities; particularly in the areas of artistic and social expression, crafts, hobbies, sports and social development. You will be required to complete a criminal record check as a condition of employment.
