The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for a Temporary full-time (from approx. February 22, 2010, to approx. February 21, 2011) Telecommunications Operator III to join our team of professionals in the Protective Services - RCMP Division.

In addition to being operational with call taking and radio dispatch, the operator in this position will be responsible for providing supervision, leadership and on the job training. Functioning as a liaison between municipal employees and regular members to maintain a solid working relationship is also an important role.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
??? Completion of the twelfth school grade including or supplemented by standard commercial courses in word-processing, plus considerable experience preferably in a law enforcement or public safety communications area, including experience as a Telecommunications Operator II, and training in effective presentation and supervision; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
??? Thorough knowledge of the methods and procedures used in the operation of police radio, telephone, PRIME, C.P.I.C. and P.I.R.S. computer systems, and related equipment.
??? Thorough knowledge of departmental functions and procedures, of specialized sections within the department, and of the laws, rules and regulations which govern departmental activities.
??? Thorough knowledge of technical language, systems and codes used in the department.
??? Thorough knowledge of the streets and major commercial, industrial and residential areas of the detachment area.
??? Considerable knowledge of the Criminal Code of Canada, the Motor Vehicle Act and other applicable by-laws and regulations.
??? Considerable knowledge of other agencies or services available in the detachment area.
??? Ability to memorize systems and codes used by the department.
??? Ability to listen and discern significant facts and to retain information pertaining to an incident.
??? Ability to send and receive radio messages with efficiency, to operate a radio system including switching from channel to channel, and to voice transmit with clarity.
??? Ability to exercise sound judgement in making quick and accurate decisions regarding departmental responsibility and action and the disposition of members.
??? Ability to perform calmly and effectively under stress and in emergency situations and to handle several tasks at one time.
??? Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with the public and to determine the facts of an incident from distraught, excited or intoxicated persons, or those with language barriers.
??? Ability to design, conduct and supervise effective individual and class training sessions.
??? Ability to evaluate and document the performance and training needs of others.
??? Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
??? Ability to interpret and explain rules and regulations.
??? Ability to operate a computer terminal with speed and accuracy.
??? Skill in the operation of radio, telephone, PRIME, PoliceCAD, C.P.I.C., P.I.R.S and related equipment requiring dual monitor multi-mode communication.

The CUPE rate of pay for this position is $27.06 - $31.87 per hour, plus 12% in lieu of benefits and the hours of work are non standard hours and/or non-standard work weeks.
