| Job Description: |
Outreach and Support Services provides resources and support to the Parks, Recreation and Culture Department and the general public, with a mandate to eliminate barriers that impede access to leisure opportunities in our community. |

| Duties: |
The Community Services Assistant 5 position is senior community service work with the incumbent responsible for carrying out a variety of organizational and administrative duties related to the planning, development, promotion and delivery of recreation programs and services, special events, volunteer activities, supervision, cash handling and facility security operations. Working as part of a team, you will also initiate community development processes; support and train appropriate instructors, co-ordinate programs and facilities, and prepare related promotional information. |

| Educational Requirements: |
Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by a degree/diploma in recreation or a related field from a recognized post secondary institution plus 2 years progressively responsible experience in recreation work or area of specialty, including supervision or an equivalent acceptable combination of training and experience. |

| Skill Requirements: |
The successful applicant must have experience in recreation programming. Essential skills include the ability to work effectively hands-on, build relationships with existing community groups, commitment to the principles of full inclusion for people with disabilities, support new and existing groups in evolving; and apply creativity in developing unique programs tailored to the needs and interests of our diverse Community. Work with various schools, recreation centre, community groups and committees using effective and tactful communication to grow partnerships and program development. Demonstrated initiative, a positive attitude, strong public relations, planning, promoting and delivering of integrated community recreation programs and the ability to create inclusive and welcoming environments are also vital in this role. Experience in working with groups to provide leadership and support their development would be an asset.
Computer experience in specific programs including Word, CLASS, and Publisher are an asset. You must also have a valid BC Driver’s License and Emergency First Aid with CPR. This position requires completion of a Criminal Record Check.

| Additional Information: |
The hours and days of work will vary and will be scheduled to address the priorities and operational needs of the program. Some evening and weekend work will be expected. The hours of work will be approximately 25-32 hours per week. |
