Job Description: The incumbent in this class assists management to achieve an efficient operation in the Recreation Services Section of the Parks & Recreation Department through reliable performance of custodian/security tasks, observing and complying with municipal policies and safety practices.
Duties: The incumbent in this class will be responsible for custodial / security services of municipal facilities; performing minor cleaning tasks; ensuring facilities are presentable to and usable by the public; ensuring security of facilities when not in use; cleaning and servicing washrooms, lobbies and foyers; emptying waste baskets, ashtrays; providing assistance to the public; performing janitorial tasks as assigned. The incumbent will perform minimal catering services; preparing coffee for elected officials and staff; arranging for and providing coffee at meetings. The incumbent will perform other related duties as assigned. Assignments and responsibilities are performed under general supervision and performance is subject to review, inspection and evaluation by the Facilities Supervisor.
Skill Requirements: -Able to understand verbal and written instructions in English, fill in simple forms, count and perform addition and subtraction;

-Able to exhibit courtesy, tact and diplomacy in dealing with the public and be neat and presentable in appearance;

-Preferably have had previous experience, but must acquire in three (3) months or less through on-the-job training, a sound knowledge of security/custodian practices and materials, methods and equipment used in janitorial work;

-Must be able to demonstrate skill in the use of equipment and materials as provided;

-Able to recognize, rectify and/or report upon actual and potential safety hazards;

-Able to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with department officials and staff.
Salary: $16.99 per hour (2010 rate)
