October 29, 2010) Labourers to join our team of professionals in the Recreation, Culture and Parks Division, Parks - Operations Department. The successful applicants will have sound knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment applicable to the various functional areas of Parks construction and maintenance work. You must have sufficient physical strength, stamina and coordination to permit the performance of heavy manual outdoor work in all weather conditions. Exercising some independent judgment and initiative, you may be responsible for: ??? Performing a variety of semi-skilled tasks in construction and maintenance of Parks and Cemeteries. ??? Operating push lawn mowers and string line trimmers. ??? Assisting in the layout and preparation of ball diamonds and soccer fields. ??? Assisting in the installation and repair of drainage and irrigation systems. ??? Driving a pick-up truck to transport materials and tools to job sites. ??? Performing other related work as required. This position requires completion of Grade 10 and it is essential for you to possess a valid Class 5 (full-privilege) BC driver???s license plus some experience in park construction and maintenance work. The CUPE rate of pay is $23.96 per plus 12% in lieu of benefits. The hours of work are Monday to Friday 8:00 am ??? 4:30 pm.
