The City is located half an hour south of Vancouver on the shore of Semiahmoo Bay. The Engineering & Municipal Operations Department seeks up to four (4) customer service and team oriented skilled Labourers to supplement their regular crew during the summer months. Labourers will work alongside crew members to perform a range of labouring duties including, but not limited to, the maintenance of City roads and thoroughfares, installation of storm and sanity connections, carpentry work, collection of solid and green waste and recyclables, and minor maintenance. Duties may also involve working with the Overhead Compactor Operator. The ideal candidate must be interested in working outdoors (rain or shine). The expected duration of this appointment, beginning May 2010, is approximately four (4) months. Duties: Necessary skills and qualifications include: ??? Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent Ability to: o Follow oral and written instructions and regulations and policies o Operate a variety of power and hand tools o Prepare and/or maintain basic records and reports o Maintain composure in a variety of circumstances o Perform work of a physical nature ??? Possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC driver???s license or equivalent with an acceptable driving record; air brake endorsement is an asset and required in order to qualify for the Recycling Collector rotation. ??? Must successfully pass a criminal record check Salary: The hourly wage is $23.80 (2010 rate).
