| Job Description: |
The City of White Rock is a unique, ocean-side community of 20,000 citizens known for its sunny weather, expansive beach, historic pier, delightful restaurants, and sense of community. The City is located half an hour south of Vancouver on the shore of Semiahmoo Bay.
The Engineering and Municipal Operations Department seeks up to seven (7) customer service oriented and team focused skilled Labourers to supplement their regular crew during the summer months. Responsibilities include preparing and maintaining ground and turf areas, flowers, shrubs, and trees (e.g. planting, weeding, watering, and pruning). Will also collect refuse, operate a variety of power equipment, assist with the construction of small structures, and perform routine equipment maintenance, inspections, and related record-keeping. The ideal candidate must be interested in working outdoors (rain or shine). |

The expected duration of this appointment, beginning May 2010, is approximately four (4) months |
|
| Skill Requirements: |
Necessary skills and qualifications include:
??? Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent
??? Ability to:
o Follow oral and written instructions and regulations and policies
o Work effectively both independently and as part of a group on a variety of projects/ tasks
o Operate power and hand tools
o Prepare and/or maintain basic records and reports
o Maintain composure in a variety of circumstances
o Perform work of a physical nature
??? Experience in horticultural labouring as described above is desired
??? Possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC driver???s license or equivalent with an acceptable driving record
???Must successfully pass a criminal record check

| Salary: |
The hourly wage is $23.80 (2010 rate). |

Grant funding has been applied for, thus for eligibility, candidates must meet the following criteria:
??? Registered as a full-time student in the previous academic year with the intention to return to school on a full-time basis the next academic year;
??? Aged between 15 and 30 years of age at start of employment;
??? Legally entitled to work according to relevant provincial/ territorial legislation and regulations;
??? Confirmed Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or has refugee protection under the relevant Act.
