Job Description: PARKS PLANNING, RESEARCH & DESIGN - CIVIC BEAUTIFICATION

The Community Services Assistant 3 position is moderate complexity community service work involving public contact, assisting staff in planning, organizing, promoting and implementing park based programs and activities.
Duties: General Duties
• Assist in the development of the City’s Civic Beautification Plan.
• Assist section staff in planning public meetings and preparing presentations.
• Communicate with the public, consultants, external agencies, and other departments
concerning civic beautification and streetscaping plans.
• Conduct best-practices reviews of streetscaping plans, public space enhancement
activities and notable civic features from key cities.
• Prepare sketches, renderings and maps where needed.
• Provides technical and administrative assistance to the Section staff in carrying out
other parks planning, design and research duties.
• Conduct site visit and photograph potential public spaces requiring enhancement and
revitalization.
• Prepare non-complex reports and correspondence.
• Perform other related duties as required.
Educational Requirements: Students applying must have completed grade 12 and are currently working towards college or university.
Skill Requirements: Successful candidates will be selected based on their education, experience and skills related to the job.

Knowledge & Skills
• Knowledge of planning principles and practices.
• Effectively prepare correspondence, written reports and presentations.
• Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suites and Google Sketch-Up preferred.
• Possesses strong interpersonal skills and have the ability to establish and maintain
effective working relationships with staff and clients.
• Work independently.
• General knowledge of Municipal Act, Surrey By-laws, regulations, policies,
procedures and standards that relate to planning are preferred.
• Knowledge of Crime Prevention Through Environment Design (CPTED) an asset.

A valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License with a safe driving record & the completion of a Criminal Record Check are required.
