Working as part of the Community Development Services team, the Youth Participation Assistant will help design and implement afterschool programs to engage immigrant and Aboriginal youth volunteers in creating cultural-competency, capacity-building and dialogue opportunities for middle years aged children.
Duties: Specific job activities will include:
• Working with a staff team to recruit, support and mentor a diverse and
inclusive youth volunteer team,
• Assist the youth team in developing the scope of activities,
• Evaluating and documenting the project, and
• Developing training materials and activities.
Educational Requirements: You have completed grade 12 and some post secondary education from a recognized institution, supplemented by 2 years related experience including supervision in recreation work or area of specialty or an equivalent acceptable combination of training and experience.
Skill Requirements: The successful applicant must have:
• An interest in community development and inter-cultural communication.
• An understanding of issues relevant to immigrant and aboriginal communities is an
asset.
• Demonstrated experience in youth engagement and participation projects is an asset.
• Effective and sensitive communication skills and the ability to work in a team setting.
• Demonstrated initiative, a positive attitude, strong problem solving skills, excellent
judgment, and the ability to create welcoming and inclusive environments.

Candidates must have a current Emergency First Aid, CPR and a High Five certificate or acceptable equivalent (if working with children 6-12). Completion of a criminal records check and a valid BC driver’s license with a safe driving record will be required.
