Job Description: We are currently offering an exciting opportunity for a dynamic, self motivated individual with proven skills and experience working in a fast-paced environment to compliment our Human Resources team. This role is responsible for establishing and maintaining effective employee and labour relations, and Disability Programs to support labour cost effectiveness in a safe work environment.

Duties: Specific responsibilities will include:

• Establishing and maintaining effective relations with employees, union officials, Council, and the public; interpreting collective agreements to all levels of management, union officials, and employees to ensure consistency of practice.

• Working with unions and management to resolve grievances at an early stage; coordinating and supporting the grievance process up to Step 2, ensuring compliance with contractual time-lines.

• Representing the Human Resources Department at various committees, meetings and events; Assisting and advising on matters related to salary and benefits administration, terminations, progressive discipline, including suggesting mandatory training courses as an outcome.

• Working with Managers to ensure employees return to work in a timely and safe manner and/or utilize long term disability benefits when required. Identifying graduated return to work opportunities, including workplace accommodations; Liaising with the benefit carrier regarding long term disability claims; and initiating independent Medical Assessments when required.

• Researches and prepares confidential labour relations, statistical and detailed reports relating to contract negotiations, grievance administration, compensation, and contract administration; Responsible for preparation and compilation of new collective agreements and letters of understanding. Educates management on negotiated contract changes and assists with implementation where required.
Educational Requirements: You bring 3 to 5 years of direct Labour/Employee Relations experience and can demonstrate a track record of excellence in communication and problem solving, in a range of Human Resources accountabilities, preferably in a unionized environment.

You will have completed or are currently working towards a Human Resources Management degree or diploma from a recognized educational institution. A CHRP designation would be an asset. An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.
