Job Description: The Fraser Valley Regional District, headquartered in Chilliwack, B.C., is the third largest and one of the fastest growing Regional Districts in British Columbia. The Fraser Valley offers a mix of rural and urban life-styles along with an abundance of recreational and cultural opportunities. Comprised of six municipalities and 7 electoral areas, we provide various levels of fire protection services throughout the region and administer 7 volunteer fire departments in our electoral areas. We have recently undertaken a service review with respect to the delivery of fire protection services in our Electoral Areas. As an outcome of that assessment, the Fraser Valley Regional District Board has created an exciting new opportunity in our organization. We are accepting applications from qualified candidates for the position of Electoral Area Fire Services and Programs Manager. Reporting to the Director of Corporate Administration, this full-time exempt management position is responsible for ensuring the efficient delivery, administration and feasibility of fire protection services and programs in the Electoral Areas of the Fraser Valley Regional District. This position will be the key contact for Volunteer Fire Chiefs and Departments in the Electoral Area aside from other corporate and administrative responsibilities associated with this role. The working hours for this position will be varied and it is expected that the Manager will work a combination of days, evenings and weekends as required.
Skill Requirements: ??? extensive fire services background at both the operational and administrative levels ??? volunteer fire services background would be an asset
??? excellent administrative, organizational and project management skills
??? demonstrated budget and contract administration experience
??? considerable knowledge of best practices, policies, protocols and standards relating to the delivery of fire protection services in rural areas
??? thorough understanding of Occupational Health and Safety legislation and requirements relating to volunteer fire fighters
??? excellent interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills
??? ability to develop strong and effective working relationships with Elected Officials, Volunteer Fire Chiefs, Senior Management, external agencies, the general public and other stakeholders
??? excellent research, policy development and writing skills
??? demonstrated leadership and conflict management/resolution skills.
