This individual will play an important role in shaping the future of Surrey. The successful candidate will require significant experience and expertise to undertake a wide range of planning assignments, and will have responsibility to supervise Planners and Planning Technicians. Responsibilities include work on a range of planning assignments, including the development of Neighborhood Concept Plans and Town Centre Plans, taking a leading role in the Official Community Plan review, and the development of a range of citywide policies and guidelines including heritage, environmental and sustainable development policies. This role will require research and analysis of planning issues; preparation of reports and correspondence on a variety of planning items; participation on Task Forces and Planning Teams and the provision of advise to other staff in performing their duties. Educational requirements include a degree in Planning, Architecture or a related field supplemented by courses recognized by the Canadian Institute of Planners as fulfilling the requirement for full membership. You have at least five years experience after a Master's Degree or seven years experience after a Bachelor's Degree. The successful candidate communicates effectively, has strong design skills, is experienced in managing a heavy workload and has well-developed public relations skills. Membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners and/or Architectural Institute of British Columbia is desirable.
