The City is located half an hour south of Vancouver on the shore of Semiahmoo Bay. Duties: The Engineering & Municipal Operations Department seeks three qualified and customer-oriented individuals to perform Labouring work within the Operations Division. Reporting to the Manager, Operations and receiving daily direction from the Foreman or Lead Hand- Parks Maintenance and Irrigation, this position works alongside a crew performing a variety of duties related to Parks and Public Works. Duties include installation of sanitary connections, maintaining City roads and thoroughfares, preparing for sidewalk installation, installation and maintenance of signs, checking pump stations and sewer lines, and performing carpentry work. Labourers are also assigned to solid waste and recycling collection and may be assigned to work with the Overhead Compactor Operator as part of a rotation. Responsibilities also include maintaining turf areas and flowers, shrubs, and trees and performing ground preparation and maintenance. Will also collect refuse from waste receptacles in public parks or walkways, assist with the construction of small structures, and perform routine equipment maintenance, inspections, and related record-keeping. The successful applicant enjoys working outdoors in all types of weather, is able to work effectively both with a team and independently when required, and maintains their composure in all situations. Educational Requirements: Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent Skill Requirements: Necessary skills and qualifications include: ???Previous labouring experience, including the operation of hand and power tools such as compressors, jackhammers, and cut-off saws and small and large power equipment (e.g. push or ride-on mower, string line trimmer, power edger, chainsaw, hedge trimmer, tractor); ???Knowledge of the physical layout of White Rock; ???Ability to carry out oral and written instructions and prepare and/or maintain simple records and reports; ???Possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC driver???s license or equivalent with an acceptable driving record; air brake endorsement is considered an asset. In order to qualify for Recycling Collector rotation, this endorsement is required; ???Must successfully pass a criminal record check. Salary: The hourly wage rate of this position is $23.80 (2010 rates), 40 hours per week, with comprehensive benefits are offered.
