Application Specialist (Developer) Municipality: City of Surrey This posting closed on November 23, 2011 at 4:30 PM Job ID: 11-PROJ-05 (Please quote job ID on resume when applying) Department: Planning & Development Job Description: Developer (Application Specialist) Planning and Development Department Overview: The Application Specialist will be responsible for working with a team within the Planning & Development department on a variety of technology initiatives over the coming years including its enterprise application system, AMANDA. The successful candidate, working under general direction, will be expected to work as part of a project team on a variety of projects performing technical development with Oracle PL/SQL as well as some JSP. Scope of Work: - Work within the project team performing development work with PL/SQL and some JSP. - Work with Business Analysts to develop technical solutions with the appropriate documentation based on the underlying business requirements. - Conduct technical analysis, design, development, implementation, and maintenance for business information systems. - Act as a Consultant to clients by providing detailed advice on technical solutions. Key Skills Required: - Experience in programming with PL/SQL and strong knowledge of development methodologies using PL/SQL. - Some experience in programming with JSP and strong knowledge of JSP development would be desirable. - Familiarity with custom report development and relational data modeling is highly desirable. - Develop technical design documentation as part of a project. - Work closely with Business Analysts to ensure the technical design is meeting the underlying business requirements. - A strong willingness to learn and apply problem solving skills using creativity and outside the box thinking. - Initiative to be well-versed in changing technology trends associated with projects over time, through a combination of industry research of best practices, fact-finding, and self-development. - Some experience with associated project methodologies and deliverables within the Waterfall, Iterative, Agile, or RAD context. - Knowledge of workflow and application integration experience would be considered assets, as well as any exposure to the AMANDA application system. - Good written and verbal communication skills. Educational/Experience Required: The successful candidate will have a degree or diploma in Computer Science from a recognized institution. Solid experience and exposure to PL/SQL is essential. Some work experience (may include co-op education experience) in a Developer role using PL/SQL and JSP would be considered an asset.
