Job Description: Reporting to the Manager Arts Services, this role is responsible for a dedicated team of theatre and special event professionals, and provides both production and technical direction along with team leadership in a fast paced, customer centric environment. Providing safe, accessible theatre spaces and creative performing arts programming opportunities is important to the Surrey community, and this role is accountable for developing and delivering on plans to ensure the future of the performing arts lives here!

The City is proud of the Surrey Arts Centre, with its performance spaces, art exhibition spaces and programming spaces. It is an important cultural hub to the community and the surrounding region. This role focuses on providing theatre production, theatre programming, and support services for a variety of events hosted at this facility including the Surrey Children???s Festival and future City and partner facilities across Surrey.

As Performing Arts Manager, you will build and sustain credibility with key internal and external stakeholders. You require the expertise and in-depth professional experiences to manage the complex operations and administration of cultural facilities, theatre systems and equipment, to co-ordinate and implement a variety of theatre programs, performing arts services and special events offered through the Surrey Arts Centre and other community venues. You need to manage services and operating strategies within complex financial structures, and be fully versed in pursuing alternate funding options. You will build and deliver budgets and long range plans within the context of various City plans and priorities.

Through your leadership and initiative, you will develop a professional staff to maintain a positive, respectful workplace that emphasizes teamwork and customer service. You are responsible to hire, motivate, develop, and retain staff in a creative environment. With your knowledge of production requirements you will effectively allocate resources to assure that each member of the team works together to meet production budgets and deadlines, to achieve high caliber theatre productions.

The work is significantly challenging given the wide variety of administrative, customer service and operational responsibilities, delivered in multiple venues and at a broad range of times.

Your highly developed theatre technical skills are supplemented by strong communication skills relating to working with staff, supporting stakeholders, writing reports, applying for grants and documenting projects for both internal and external audiences. You must demonstrate a thorough understanding of community cultural development and the ability to work with a diverse theatre clientele to help them achieve successful programs.

The successful candidate must be a university or college level graduate in a related discipline, with 7-10 years of progressively responsible experience in the delivery of professional cultural/theatre programs and significant experience in facility management. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. Completion of a criminal record check will be required.
