The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for a regular full-time Bylaw Enforcement Officer to join our team of professionals in the Protective Services - Fire Division, Bylaw Department.

Reporting to the Manager, Bylaws, you will be responsible in this unionized position for: investigating and processing complaints concerning by-law infractions and violations; enforcing regulations and by-laws related specifically to streets and traffic, waste removal, anti-noise, nuisance abatement, sprinkling, untidy premises, signs; assisting other Township branches and departments in their enforcement of regulations and by-laws; delivering summonses and subpoenas; gathering evidence and appearing in Court as witness for prosecutions; and explaining and interpreting by-laws and regulations to the public.

Your education includes completion of grade 12 and training in by-law enforcement and sound experience in inspectional and enforcement work, or, an equivalent combination of training and experience. You must have sound knowledge of municipal by-laws, regulations and applicable provincial statutes as well as knowledge of court procedures and legality of various types of evidence. Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills are essential in this role.
Computer familiarity is required with proficiency to prepare routine reports and maintain records manually and/or using software applications. A valid Class 5 (full privilege) British Columbia Driver???s License is required.

This position is defined by the Township of Langley as a position of trust (Child Safety) and requires a criminal record check.

The rate of pay for this CUPE position is $28.14 - $33.14 per hour (2011 rates), plus benefits. The hours of work are non-standard hours and/or non-standard work weeks.
