The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for up to 4 temporary full-time (from approx. February 27, 2012 to approx. November 30, 2012) Utilities Maintenance Workers to join our team of professionals in the Engineering Division, Operations ??? Utilities Department.
Reporting to the Utilities Construction Foreman or the Sewers Foreman, the successful applicant will have sound knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment applicable to the various functional areas of utilities construction and utilities maintenance work. You must have sufficient physical strength, stamina and coordination to permit the performance of heavy manual outdoor work in all weather conditions.
Exercising some independent judgment and initiative, you will be responsible for:
??? Assisting in water & sewer construction, maintenance, and repair tasks such as installing water & sewer mains; installing water & sewer services; connecting new and existing water mains; and utilizing shoring as required.
??? Assisting sewer operators in the maintenance and operation of the pump stations, PRV???s, etc.
??? Utilizing a variety of equipment and repair processes such as an M-Scope to locate utilities; service tapping tools, hand and power tools related to utilities work.
??? Responding to water and sewer calls and complaints and may direct one or more semi-skilled or unskilled assistants engaged in the work.
??? Driving a work truck and performing related work as required.
It is essential for you to have completion of Grade 12 or equivalent, supplemented by training courses and experience in water or sewer construction and maintenance tasks or an equivalent combination of training and experience. A valid Class 5 (Full-privilege) BC driver???s license is required. An E.O.C.P. Water Distribution - Level 1 certificate is required.
The CUPE rate of pay is $26.38 per hour (2011 rates) plus 12% in lieu of benefits. The hours of work are Monday to Friday 8:00 am ??? 4:30 pm.
