The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for up to 4 temporary full-time (from approx. February 27, 2012 to approx. November 30, 2012) Labourers to join our team of professionals in the Engineering Division, Operations ??? Utilities Department.

Reporting to the Utilities Construction Foreman or the Sewers Foreman, the successful applicant will have sound knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment applicable to the various functional areas of utilities construction and utilities maintenance work. You must have sufficient physical strength, stamina and coordination to permit the performance of heavy manual outdoor work in all weather conditions.

Exercising some independent judgment and initiative, you will be responsible for:
??? Performing a variety of semi-skilled tasks in the operation, maintenance and construction of waterworks and sewer works. The work may include Water and sewer main & service installation, water main flushing, fire hydrant and valve maintenance and repair; and lift station & sewer system cleaning, maintenance and repair.
??? Acting as a pad man for backhoes, performing water main tie-ins, installing water & sewer services
??? Breaking blacktop and concrete surfaces using pneumatic hammers and compressor accessories.
??? Using motorized compacting machines in backfilling and grading work and independently performing the more complex work.
??? Driving a pick-up truck to transport materials and tools to job sites.
??? Performing other related work as required.

It is essential for you to have completion of Grade 10, some experience in general Utility construction and maintenance work, a valid Class 5 (Full-privilege) BC driver???s license, E.O.C.P. Wastewater Collection Level 1 and/or Water Distribution Level 1 certificate would be an asset.

The CUPE rate of pay is $24.92 per hour (2011 rates) plus 12% in lieu of benefits. The hours of work are Monday to Friday 8:00 am ??? 4:30 pm.
