November 2, 2012) Labourers to join our team of professionals in the Engineering Division, Operations ??? Roads and Drainage Department. Reporting to the Roads and Drainage Manager, the successful applicants will have sound knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment applicable to several functional areas of construction and maintenance work. You must have sufficient physical strength, stamina and coordination to permit the performance of heavy manual outdoor work in all weather conditions. Exercising some independent judgment and initiative, you will be responsible for: ??? Working on a boulevard crew doing vegetation maintenance using chainsaws, line trimmers, bush blades and associated hand tools. ??? Performing a variety of semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance and construction of roads, pavements, sewers, waterworks and in street cleaning and sanitation. ??? Acting as a grademan to effectively correct and precisely grade from stakes and readings in the construction of sidewalks, trenches, roadways and similar areas. ??? Acting as a padman for backhoes. ??? Breaking blacktop and concrete surfaces using pneumatic hammers and compressor accessories. ??? Using motorized compacting machines in backfilling and grading work and independently performing the more complex work. ??? Driving a pick-up truck to transport materials and tools to job sites. ??? Performing other related work as required. This position requires completion of Grade 10 and it is essential for you to possess a valid Class 5 (full-privilege) BC driver???s license plus some experience in general construction and maintenance work. A class 3 driver???s license with air brake endorsement would be preferred. The CUPE rate of pay is $24.92 per hour (2011 rates), plus 12% in lieu of benefits.
