Assistant Fire Chief - Operations

We are currently offering an exciting opportunity in our Fire Rescue Service, for a dynamic, self motivated professional with proven skills, energy and innovation as an Assistant Fire Chief - Operations. Reporting to the Deputy Fire Chief - Operations, the incumbent will be a member of the Fire Service Management Team, and is responsible and accountable for planning, organizing, directing, controlling and coordinating the Operations Division activities as well as the effective delivery of services on assigned shifts. This position has an impact on the operational budget, the reputation of the Fire Rescue Service and reduction of exposure to liability for the City. This position involves considerable interaction with internal and external groups and agencies.

The Assistant Fire Chief - Operations responds to emergency incidents as needed; exercises the option to relieve Officers of command upon arrival at an incident; directs overall site operations; determines the necessity for additional fire apparatus, personnel and equipment as needed; participates as a member of the Incident Command Team and assumes roles within the Incident Command System during any incident.

As the successful candidate you will possess a combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform job functions. Certification to Level III of the Fire Officers??? Standard or other equivalent training and certification required. A Bachelor???s Degree in Science, Business, or Fire Administration or equivalent and experience working in a unionized, municipal environment are considered assets. In addition, you must have a valid BC drivers licence.
