The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for a temporary full-time (from approx. May 28, 2012 to approx. November 30, 2012) Technical Assistant to join our team of professionals in the Engineering Division; Operations - Utilities Department.

Reporting to the Sewer & Construction Superintendent, you will be responsible in this unionized position for assisting in determining the amount and location of work required and following through to completion; inspecting hydrants, water meters, air valves and other utilities equipment to gather information on make, model, serial number, location, etc. as well as inspecting properties to confirm records of the type of use, i.e., industrial, commercial, institutional, agricultural, residential, etc. You will also contact residents and property owners for status checks regarding ongoing programs and to gather information.

Your education will include completion of the first year of an undergraduate degree or diploma in Earth Science, Environmental Studies, Geography, Engineering and/or a GIS and Mapping Technology program. Work experience in a municipal government or private engineering department an asset. You will have the ability to prioritize and schedule tasks to meet deadlines, compile and analyze statistics related to the work as well as the ability to communicate effectively with others orally and in writing. You will have skill in the use of computer and drafting equipment and related software required in the work. A valid BC Class 5 (full-privilege) driver’s license is required.

The CUPE rate of pay for this position is $23.00- $27.02 per hour (2011 rates), plus 12% in lieu of benefits. The hours of work are Monday to Friday 8:00am – 4:30pm.
