The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for an auxiliary Youth Worker to join our team of professionals in the Recreation, Culture, and Parks Division, Recreation Facilities and Programs Department.

Reporting to the Community Recreation Manager, you will be responsible in this unionized position for directing the implementation of program activities including planning and program preparation; providing leadership and instruction. You will provide peer mentoring to youth; demonstrating leadership skills; encouraging participation in activities and skill development; and assisting in the referral of program participants to community agencies, as required.

Your education will include completion of Grade 12 and skill training in specialty programs and courses in community recreation, leadership and/or conflict resolution, and sound related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. You will have sound knowledge of the needs and interests of youth client groups; the ability to organize, lead, coordinate and participate in and provide independent leadership and instruction in activities and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with youth clients, recreation staff, volunteers and the general public. You must have a current first aid and CPR certificate, as well as a valid BC Class 5 (full-privilege) driver’s license is required, Class IV preferred

This position is defined by the Township of Langley as positions of trust (Child Safety) and requires a criminal record check.

The CUPE rate of pay for this position is $20.45 - $23.96 per hour (2011 rates), plus 12% in lieu of benefits. The hours of work are non-standard hours and/or non-standard work weeks.
