Turf Grass Supervisor (Full Time) Municipality: City of Chilliwack This posting closed on July 2, 2012 at 4:30 PM Job ID: 2012-49 (Please quote job ID on resume when applying) Department: Parks, Recreation and Culture Job Description: The incumbent in this class assists management to achieve an efficient operation within the Parks Services of the Parks, Recreation and Culture Department through reliable performance of all turfgrass and parks related duties, observing and complying with municipal policies and safety practices. Duties: The incumbent in this class will be responsible for performing a variety of grounds maintenance and horticultural functions including maintaining irrigation systems and their related systems and facilities; performing repairs and regular maintenance to all parks facilities and equipment, identifying turf diseases and pests. The incumbent will be responsible for performing a wide range of turf grass duties, including but not limited to; aeration, top dressing, overseeding, fertilizing, overseeing grooming of artificial turf fields, mowing lawns, applying herbicides and insecticides and performing other related turf grass duties. As directed, the incumbent will provide assistance in the parks utility operation, repairing, maintaining, constructing and installing parks playground equipment and furnishings; construction of and developing park areas. Assignments and responsibilities are performed under general supervision in accordance with established routine and performance is subject to review, inspection and evaluation by the Foreman II. Educational Requirements: -Must have successfully completed an accredited two-year post-secondary program in turfgrass maintenance and have a minimum of four years practical experience in turfgrass; -Must have completed a formal training course in effective supervision and have a minimum of two (2) years experience in a supervisory role; -Must have a valid Pesticide Application Certificate as issued by the Provincial Ministry of Environment; Skill Requirements: -Must have sound knowledge in the principles, practices, procedures and methods used in turfgrass endeavours; -Must be in possession of a valid B.C. Driver's Licence with appropriate classification of the equipment assigned; -Must be able to work with a minimum of supervision; -General knowledge of all parks maintenance, including irrigation and skilled in the use of tools and equipment used in parks maintenance; -General knowledge of the principles, practices, procedures and methods used in parks maintenance; -Able to recognize and rectify and/or report upon actual and potential safety hazards; -Able to operate a variety of parks equipment and make minor repairs to same; -Able to lift and carry heavy objects; -Able to understand verbal and written instructions in English and complete required forms, logs and reports as required; -Able to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with department officials, users and other members of staff. Salary: $25.36 - $29.84 / Hourly Additional Information: The incumbent in this class will be required to work any consecutive five (5) days within a calendar week in accordance with published shift schedules and work overtime as authorized. The incumbent must be in good health to work outdoors regardless of weather. The incumbent must wear safety equipment as appropriate and observe recognized safety practices in the performance of his duties.
