| Job Description: |
We are currently offering an exciting opportunity in our City Clerk’s Office, for a dynamic, self-motivated professional with proven skills, knowledge and abilities as an Information & Privacy Coordinator. Reporting to the Deputy City Clerk, this position receives and processes all Requests for Access to Records pursuant to the Freedom of Information and Privacy Protection Act. The incumbent also responds to various public and staff inquiries regarding Requests for Access to Records and provides advice, recommendations and training to staff regarding compliance with the provisions of the Freedom of Information and Privacy Protection Act.
Key responsibilities:
• Receives Requests for Access to Records from the public and processes them in compliance with the provincial Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (the Act), City policies and procedures, and other relevant legislation, by preparing all notices, correspondence, and submissions, including severing records, collecting and waiving fees where applicable, tracking requests, maintaining records and ensuring the City meets all statutory requirements and obligations;
• Provides routine advice, recommendations and training to staff regarding the Act and Requests for Access to Records. Ensures the development and delivery of training sessions for City staff on the legislative requirements and processes relating to FOI requests;
• Coordinates the development and communication of information provided to the general public regarding the Freedom of Information Protection of Privacy Act;
• Demonstrates an advanced problem solving ability by balancing the legal rights of applicants to access to records, with the obligation to protect privacy of the individual's personal information.
As the successful candidate you have a university degree or diploma in Local Government Management, plus 2 to 5 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. In addition you are a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) or hold an equivalent accreditation. Preference will be given to candidates with working in a unionized, municipal environment.
