Senior Planner, Development Planning
Full-Time; Posting # E12-07
We are currently offering an exciting opportunity in our Economic Development & Planning Services Department, for a dynamic, self-motivated professional with proven leadership skills, energy and creativity of a Senior Planner. As an integral team player, you will be part of achieving the vision of Abbotsford as the most sustainable, livable, and prosperous City in British Columbia for the rapidly growing City of Abbotsford. Are you up for the challenge of joining our team of highly motivated professionals to build the future success of Abbotsford through key partnerships of stakeholders, including the development industry?
Specific responsibilities include:
• Provide professional planning expertise on complex and diverse projects in the development and achievement of the community’s goals;
• Policy development and research, and a focus on managing highly complex development applications;
• Interacting with development proponents, the public, staff from a variety of departments and government agencies;
• Assisting in management of other planning staff through coaching, resolving interpretation matters, and/or procedural issues;
• Be a problem-solver, have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and be expected to develop innovative solutions and approaches to reconcile issues.
You have a Masters in Urban Planning, or a combination of experience and a Bachelor’s Degree (B.A) in a related field(s), plus at least 8 years of community planning experience preferably with a local government or the private development industry or an equivalent combination of education and experience. You are also eligible for full membership in the Planning Institute of BC, and possess thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and laws relating to community planning including urban design, current literature, trends and issues.
