Our Engineering & Operations Department requires a qualified individual to perform advanced technical field and office work involving engineering survey and field design duties inspecting municipal servicing infrastructure and completing other engineering related assignments. Under the supervision of the Manager of Engineering Projects & Budgets, the Engineering Technologist – Survey performs a wide range of surveying and mapping duties using advanced software; interprets survey results as they relate to the design and construction of a variety of projects and to the City’s GIS and Mapping system; performs limited design, drafting, inspection and project coordination work on municipal servicing infrastructure projects; completes engineering related technical assignments including requests for service by the public, road condition surveys and traffic counts; establishes and maintains effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts; directs and reviews the work of survey personnel; and ensures the appropriate and safe use of equipment related to the work. The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the CUPE Collective Agreement. The 2011 salary for this full-time position is $2,381.86 – $2,720.24 biweekly and includes a comprehensive benefit package upon successful completion of a four-month probationary period. Educational Requirements: The successful applicant to this position will have: • Graduated from a recognized Institute of Technology with a diploma in Geomatics Engineering Technology supplemented by safety, environmental and other related courses. • Three years of survey experience in municipal engineering survey areas such as roads, drainage, water works and sanitary sewers. • Knowledge of advanced VBA programming in Access or Excel is an asset. • A valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License • Registered or eligible for registration with the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians (ASTT) of BC as an Applied Science Technologist (AScT) are also required.
