| Job Description: |
The District of Mission is currently recruiting for a self-motivated, hard-working and responsible team member to join the Public Works utility crew as a pipelayer.
This is manual maintenance and construction work relating to repairs, maintenance and installation of water, sanitary and storm mains and services throughout the District. |

| Duties: |
Employees in this position will perform semi-skilled and skilled duties relating to the maintenance and construction of water, sanitary and storm utilities, mainlines and service lines; repairs, replaces and adjusts fittings, valves, fixtures and hydrants, installs valves, shutoffs, and cleanouts; assists in the installation of catch basins and manholes, plumbing, pumping and pressure stations installation tasks;
drills and taps mains for new and replacement service connections. Locates and repairs water main leaks and breaks on various types of lines; repairs shutoff valves, assists in installation of water mains and fittings of all sizes; installs water meter boxes and independently performs tasks related to these fields as requested. |

| Educational Requirements: |
Completion of grade 12 supplemented by technical training relating to this type of work, preference will be given to candidates who have ECOP certification or have completed BCWWA Water Distribution 1 and BCWWA Waste Water Collection 1. |

| Skill Requirements: |
This position requires considerable knowledge of: standards in methods and practices pertaining to materials, tools and equipment used in the construction and maintenance of water, sanitary and storm utilities; knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the work as they relate to current codes of standards; good working knowledge of bylaws and regulations pertaining to water, sanitary and storm utilities; skills in the use and care of tools, materials and equipment used in the utilities departments. |

| Salary: |
The 2013 rate for this CUPE position is $28.41 per hour plus a very competitive benefit package upon successful completion of probation period. The work schedule is 36 hours per week over 4 days. |
