Senior Planner, Strategic Projects | Posting #E13-05

We are currently offering an excellent opportunity in our Economic Development & Planning Services Department, for a dynamic, self-motivated professional with proven leadership skills, energy and creativity of a Senior Planner for Strategic Projects. As an integral team player, you will be part of achieving the vision of Abbotsford as the most sustainable, livable, and prosperous City in British Columbia. Working in close co-operation with the Manager, Strategic Projects and the Senior Project Coordinator, the Senior Planner will provide advanced knowledge, expertise and leadership in directing projects through the City???s development approval processes. Applications commonly require processing tailored to the unique circumstances of the project; seldom are they routine. In this exciting role you will:

??? Facilitate expeditious processing of commercial, industrial and institutional development applications;
??? Liaise closely with the development community and their consultants to work with and share the vision of the developer while working within the legal constraints of municipal authority;
??? Champion projects through personal relationships, influence and experience and take decisive action to expedite municipal approvals;
??? Make recommendations and presentations to Council relating to development applications and act as principal host for informal public informational meetings related to development;
??? Make decisions within the intent of the bylaw, which often requires a balanced perspective with respect to land use proposals and economic development goals;
??? Make decisions on acceptance of alternative design solutions that are equivalent to prescribed regulations.

As the successful candidate you have a Masters in Urban Planning, or a combination of experience and a Bachelor???s Degree in a related field, plus at least 7 years of related experience preferably with a local government or the private development industry. You are also eligible for membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners (MCIP) and membership in the Planning Institute of BC (PIBC).
