| Job Description: |
Employees in this position perform a variety of tasks related to recreation buildings and facilities. They are responsible to: install and maintain ice, operate related equipment, perform minor maintenance and repair of machines, pumps and filters, perform minor construction, renovation, and maintenance of recreation buildings, ensure building security, and perform janitorial and custodial functions for the ice arena, curling rink, swimming pool area, public, and multi-purpose areas. The duties will vary according to the season, and recreation facility activities and requirements. While some independence of judgement is authorized for the performance of tasks within established guidelines, more complex or unusual situations are reviewed with the supervisor to determine the appropriate action. |

| Duties: |
Install and maintain ice surface in the arena; assist in installation and maintenance of curling ice
Operate, maintain and perform minor repairs for a variety of ice-making, resurfacing and refrigeration equipment, and monitor and record the operation of the arena refrigeration plant, checking oil levels and pressures, refrigerant, cooling water and brine temperature and pressure and be fully conversant with emergency procedures
Perform a variety of semi-skilled building and equipment repair and maintenance tasks including painting, basic plumbing, replacing arena glass, basic carpentry, and other related functions
Operate equipment in building systems including heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems (HVAC), lighting and electrical and plumbing systems, and monitor the operation of a variety of pumps and filters and log results; clean and make minor repairs and adjustments
Operate, maintain and perform minor repairs for pool filtration system including backwash of pool filters
Perform a variety of building cleaning functions including mop-washing and scrubbing floors, disinfecting washrooms, change rooms, pool decks and tanks, cleaning public areas and replenishing supplies
Set up rooms as required in preparation for meetings, programs and/or rentals including setting and removing furnishings and equipment
Maintain the security of the building by locking doors and windows as required and by maintaining order in the behaviour of users of the facilities
Perform ground maintenance including functions around the facility as required; clean snow and ice from walkways and door entrances
Respond to routine enquiries and give assistance to user groups and the public
Provide assistance to teams, organizations and the general public who use the recreational facilities, and report any changes to the booking schedule to the supervisor
Participate in the development and delivery of training for new staff
Provide information related to the performance assessment of new staff.
Participate in the development and implementation of new policies and procedures
Complete records and reports as required
Perform other related duties including those of a Facility Maintenance Worker I as assigned. |

| Educational Requirements: |
High School graduation or equivalent
Refrigeration Operators Certification
Valid Class 5 British Columbia drivers licence
Valid Level I Occupational First Aid certificate, or equivalent
Building Service Worker Certificate, or recognized equivalent. |

| Skill Requirements: |
Minimum of 1 year experience in ice making and building maintenance
Demonstrable knowledge of methods, and materials, used in ice making and maintenance
Demonstrable knowledge to operate, maintain and perform minor repairs of equipment including ice making and maintenance, pool operation and maintenance, refrigeration, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, lighting, electrical and plumbing equipment
Demonstrable knowledge of safety precautions applicable to duties of the position
Demonstrable knowledge of building maintenance, building cleaning and the building trades
Demonstrable knowledge of regulations governing the operation of public pools and public indoor arenas where applicable
Demonstrable knowledge of materials, tools and equipment used in janitorial and building maintenance work, including the safe handling of chemicals, corrosive materials and pressurized gases
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external contacts, and to communicate tactfully and effectively, both verbally and in writing
Ability to work with minimum supervision in carrying out tasks
Sufficient physical strength and stamina to perform the required duties. |

| Salary: |
The rate for this auxiliary CUPE position is $28.90 per hour plus 4% in lieu of benefits. |
