The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for a regular full-time Environmental Coordinator II to join our team of professionals in the Community Development Division, Development Planning Department.

Reporting to the Manager, Development Planning, you will be responsible in this unionized position to undertake environmental work involving the application of specialized knowledge in review of development applications to meet environmental regulations, support growth management objectives and provide guidance to the public related to environmentally sensitive area setbacks and requirements. You will be responsible for the administration of the Streamside Protection Bylaw. This work entails research of land use and development environmental issues; coordinating and expediting the processing and approval of applications through regulatory agencies, as well as meeting with interested environmental groups; preparing reports and draft regulations relative to environmental studies and legislation. You will maintain liaison with internal and external stakeholders, environmental agencies, developers and the public. This position will also play a key role in neighbourhood planning in the application of specialized knowledge from an environmental, sustainability and ecosystem planning perspective in support of the Township???s growth management objectives. As a key member of the Development Services team, you will work collaboratively and in consultation with landscape architects, engineering technologists and professional planners.

The successful candidate will have at a minimum university graduation, plus a post graduate degree in a related discipline and eligibility for registration in a professional association related to the work (P. Ag. or R.P.Bio. preferred), plus some professional experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.???

Experience within a municipal government setting is preferred. You will have strong interpersonal skills, be energetic, enthusiastic, well organized and able to communicate effectively with the public and a variety of stakeholders. This position requires considerable independence of judgement and action combined with solid education and experience from a technical and scientific perspective. Extensive computer familiarity is required with proficiency in visual presentations, word processing, and spreadsheets. A valid Class 5 (full-privilege) BC driver???s license is required.

The CUPE rate of pay for this position is $37.55 - $44.37 per hour (2011 rates), plus benefits. The hours of work are Monday to Friday 8:30am ??? 4:30pm.
