| Job Description: |
The City of Surrey???s Parks, Recreation and Culture Department currently has a regular part time Community Services Assistant 5 opportunity in the Heritage Services Division. This position is responsible for planning and implementing the recruitment, screening, placement, orientation, training and recognition of heritage volunteers. Working as part of a team, the Volunteer Specialist assists the staff of the Surrey Museum, Historic Stewart Farm, Surrey Archives and Heritage Collections to support community volunteerism and work experience students in Surrey???s heritage facilities. The position collaborates with community agencies to promote and attract volunteers to a variety of heritage placements. The Volunteer Specialist reports to the Manager of Heritage Services. |

| Duties: |
In this role, some typical duties include: writing and preparing promotional material to attract heritage volunteers; developing volunteer strategies including presentations, events and community support agencies; planning and implementing volunteer training sessions; meeting with potential volunteers to assess skills, experience and interests for placement; providing orientations for new volunteers; planning and co-coordinating recognition events; liaising with secondary and post-secondary institutions to promote internship and work experience opportunities in Heritage Services; and maintaining volunteer records including recruitment forms and training manuals. |

| Educational Requirements: |
You must have completed Grade 12 supplemented by a degree/diploma in a discipline relevant to the specialty from a recognized post-secondary institution plus 2 years progressively responsible experience in area of specialty, including supervision, or an equivalent acceptable combination of training and experience. As well, you will have a current Emergency First Aid and CPR certificate (or acceptable equivalent), and possess a valid BC Driver???s License with a safe driving history. |

| Skill Requirements: |
The successful applicant must have considerable understanding and knowledge of volunteer management programs within the cultural sector. Effective communication skills both orally and in writing; strong interpersonal and public relations skills, and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with heritage colleagues, community agencies, educational career counselors and the public. |
