Job Description: The City of White Rock is a unique, ocean-side community of 20,000 citizens known for its sunny weather, expansive beach, historic pier, delightful restaurants, and sense of community. The City is located half an hour south of Vancouver on the shore of Semiahmoo Bay.
Duties: The Bylaw Division seeks an experienced and customer-oriented individual to join their team on a Casual basis to supplement staff on weekends and other shifts. Reporting to the Director of Planning & Development Services, the Bylaw Enforcement Officer is responsible for conducting inspections, investigating and processing complaints, enforcing a broad range of City bylaws and regulations and preparing evidence for Court related to the prosecution of offenders. Customer relation and conflict management skills form key components of the position requiring that the Bylaw Enforcement Officer interprets bylaws, regulations and applicable rules to the public. The work also involves enforcing the animal control bylaw and dog licensing regulations, including apprehending, transporting, and temporary care of stray, injured or aggressive animals.
Educational Requirements: Necessary qualifications include:
???Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by courses related to the work and sound related regulatory or enforcement experience dealing with the public; or an equivalent combination of training and experience; Peace Officer experience is an asset;
???Considerable knowledge of the regulations and bylaws related to municipal operations;
???Sound knowledge of court procedures and the legality of evidence;
???Ability to successfully pass a criminal record check and qualify to be sworn in as a Peace Officer.
???Possess and maintain a valid Class 5 driver???s license or equivalent with an acceptable driving record;
Skill Requirements: Necessary skills include:
???Ability to deal tactfully & diplomatically with the public and to exercise sound judgment and discretion as required;
???Outstanding customer service, communication and conflict resolution skills;
???Sound written skills with the ability to maintain clear and accurate records;
Salary: The hourly wage range of this position is $24.91 - $29.31 with a percentage offered in lieu of benefits. It is anticipated that initially this position will work 21 hours per week (Friday to Monday) beginning in June for a thirteen week period. This position works a non-standard work week including evening and/or weekend shifts. The ideal candidate for this position has a flexible schedule and excellent availability on weekends.
