Job Description: The City of Surrey Engineering Department has an opportunity for a Civil Engineering student in its Engineering Utility Sewer Planning and Water Planning Sections.

As a junior technical staff member you would provide support and assistance to senior engineering staff in administrative responsibilities, and performing moderate to complex technical work related to the completion of a variety of civil engineering activities and projects.

Duties: Listed below are the major functions the student would be responsible for both water and sewer planning. With respect to Water Planning, incumbents would perform metered water consumption data analysis; water balances on pressure zones; and correlate services with onsite meter and backflow devices. Duties in Sewer Planning would involve Inflow and Infiltration Studies (I&I), flow data analysis, and perform limited field work.
Educational Requirements: Applicants must have completed their first year of a degree program in a related engineering discipline. A valid Class 5 BC driver's license and a safe driving record is asset. Applicants with a Class 7 BC driver???s license may be required to use their own vehicle for business purposes and purchase necessary business insurance. The City of Surrey reimburses 53 cents per kilometer for use of a personal vehicle.
Skill Requirements: The successful candidate must be a team player, who possesses the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships; understand and interpret engineering plans and specifications; collect and analyze data; work independently and be self motivating; and willing and able to learn Microsoft Access.
