Job Description: The Engineering Assistant 3 (Traffic Signals) is a senior technical, administrative, and supervisory position providing support and assistance to senior staff in administrative responsibilities, and performing complex technical work related to the completion of a variety of City Engineering Activities and projects in a relevant area of engineering.
Duties: A major focus of this position will be administering the Electrical Maintenance Contract and the overseeing of City Streetlight and programs. In addition the incumbent will review the electrical design of traffic signals and electrical devices. Other duties may include collecting, analyzing data, performing computer modeling, processing engineering applications, performing field inspections, supervising and training staff, and providing direction to construction and maintenance personnel, and other duties as required.
Educational Requirements: Qualified applicants will have completed a 2-year diploma in Electrical or Civil Engineering Technology from a recognized post-secondary institution and five (5) years engineering experience with a demonstrated record of technical knowledge, skill, and ability and supervisory experience in the related areas of engineering. Applicants must have technical expertise applicable to the specific role. An equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered. Applicants will have a valid unrestricted Driver???s License.
Skill Requirements: The successful applicant will have demonstrated technical expertise; good spoken and written communication skills; establish and maintain effective working relationships; and experience with the coordination and supervision of projects including control monitoring of consultants??? and contractors??? work and performance. The incumbent will have sound decision making and problem solving skills and the ability to training and supervise the work of junior staff. Public relations and customer service are key factors to success in this position.
