Job Description: The incumbent in this class assists management to achieve efficient operation of the Parks Section of the Operations Department through reliable performance of all parks related duties observing and complying with municipal policies and safety practices.

Duties: As directed the incumbent in this class will be responsible for performing a range of non-skilled and semi-skilled horticultural, landscaping, parks maintenance and construction tasks, and will be required to proficiently operate parks equipment as required. The incumbent, as directed, will assist in the repair and maintenance of irrigation and drainage systems and will be required to maintain turf grass with seeding, fertilizing, overseeding, sodding, and all landscaped areas, cultivating grounds, planting flower beds, shrubs, trees, etc., pruning, weeding and under direct supervision, applying herbicide and pesticide, and other related tasks as assigned. Assignments are performed under general supervision in accordance with established routine and performance is subject to review, inspection and evaluation by the Supervisor III.
Educational Requirements: Must have completed some formal education in horticulture and/or turf grass from a recognized school or have a minimum of four years practical experience in landscaping.

Must be in possession of a valid B.C. Driver's License with appropriate classification of equipment assigned.
Skill Requirements: -General knowledge of parks maintenance and the use of tools and equipment used in parks maintenance;

-General knowledge of the principles, practices, procedures and methods used in parks maintenance;

-Able to recognize and rectify and/or report upon actual or potential safety hazards;

-Able to lift and carry heavy objects;

-Able to understand verbal and written instructions in English and complete required forms, logs and reports as required;

-Must be in good health to work outdoors regardless of weather;

-Able to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with department officials, users and other members of the staff.
Salary: $23.52 to 27.67 per hour (2018 rates)
