Job Description: Under the direct supervision of the Utilities Chief Operator, the incumbent in this position assists in all phases of work performed in the Utilities Department. The incumbent shall be responsible for maintaining the efficient operation of Municipal services equipment and related infrastructure for Water Wastewater and Flood Protection

The incumbent will be required to perform the tasks and duties assigned on a continuing basis, take on the minimal supervisory responsibilities including:
??? Planning, organizing, scheduling coordinating of work
??? Assigning of work and personnel
??? Maintaining quality, accuracy, and quantity of work as well as updated record keeping
??? At times giving advice, guidance, instructions and directions
??? Help develop work methods, procedures and standards


Duties: ??? Assisting the Chief Utilities Operator with tasks and projects and helps ensure that they are completed in an efficient, effective and economical manner
??? Working with the Chief Utilities Operator in developing and implementing preventative maintenance programs within the Utilities Department???s jurisdiction
??? Ensuring appropriate maintenance of all Utilities structures, equipment and appurtenances
??? Responding to complaints relating to the Utilities Department
??? Performing all duties related to daily operations of the Utilities Department
??? Assisting Public Works as required


Educational Requirements: ??? Minimum Grade 12 education
??? EOCP Certificate ??? Level I, Wastewater Treatment or Collection or
??? EOCP Certificate ??? Level I, Water Treatment or Distribution
??? Hydrant Maintenance training
??? WHMIS training
??? Confined Space Entry training
??? Valid Class 5 Driver???s License


Skill Requirements: ??? Understanding of Water and Wastewater Infrastructure construction techniques and principles
??? Ability to operate all Utilities Department assigned vehicles and equipment
??? Ability to read plans, calculate quantities and do mathematical calculations
??? Knowledge and experience in the methods, techniques, materials and equipment used in general construction and overall maintenance OF Water and Wastewater works
??? Good knowledge of computer skills such as Microsoft Excel and Word
??? Good knowledge of O H & S and WorksafeBC regulations and procedures
??? Good interpersonal skills in order to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with all staff members and Contractors
??? Ability to climb ladders and be comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces
??? Polite, tactful and courteous while dealing with the public
??? Good health and sufficient strength, stamina and coordination to carry out all associated duties in all weather conditions
??? Willingness and ability to adapt to technological changes where it affects assigned duties and responsibilities
??? Ability to understand and effectively carry out verbal and written instructions in English
??? Minimum 1 year of related experience

Salary: This bargain unit position has a rate of pay of $30.22 (2016) plus benefits as per the Collective Agreement. Hours of work will be 37.5 hours per week and shift schedules will include weekends.
