Department: Operations Department
Job Description: Reporting to the Director of Operations , you will be responsible for managing the Operations
Department safety program and for determining and prioritizing the health and safety issues that impact
Operations Department employees. The Operations Department has over 120 employees who work as a
team to maintain the City???s roads, sewer, water supply, water distribution and storm drainage
infrastructure as well as the City???s Wastewater Treatment Plant and flood protection dykes. You will
become a key member of the Operations Department management team and will work collaboratively to
continually improve health and safety as it relates to the departments activities and operations.
Duties: You will be responsible to devise and manage Operations Department training strategies and programs,
identify training and development needs, oversee training program implementation and assess training
outcomes. You will carry out audits to ensure that departmental operations are carried out in
compliance with the Workers Compensation Act and O.H.S. Regulations as well as departmental and
corporate safety policies and procedures. You will notify department employees of any regulatory
changes that may affect their operations and you will develop recommendations for change to ensure
compliance. You will recommend changes to training and safety programs to improve overall safety. You
will co-ordinate investigations for workplace accidents and incidents involving Operations Department
employees and shall work with supervisors to make recommendations for corrective actions to reduce or
eliminate hazards and/or unsafe work practices. You will conduct daily building and/or job site
inspections to ensure safe work practices are being followed and will offer recommendations for
improvement as required.
Educational Requirements: You will hold a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation or a closely
related/equivalent qualification and have a minimum of 5 years experience in health and safety or
construction management and/or training administration, or, an equivalent combination of education
and relevant experience.
