The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for up a regular full-time Guard to join our team of professionals in the Protective Services ??? RCMP Division, Front Counter/Cells Section.

Reporting to the Operations Support Supervisor, the chosen candidate will be responsible in this unionized position for custodial work involving responsibility for the guarding of prisoners held at the Langley RCMP Detachment. An employee of this class maintains surveillance over prisoners to ensure their security and welfare, notifies the officer of any unusual occurrences, and maintains a prisoner log book. Some independence of judgment is exercised in routine matters, while unusual matters or problems are referred to a superior. Work performance is reviewed in terms of alertness, attitude and adherence to well-defined practices and procedures.

Completion of the 12th school grade and some related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. It is essential that the ideal candidate have strong interpersonal skills and will be energetic, enthusiastic, well organized plus be able to communicate effectively (verbal and written) with all levels of internal and external contacts.

The rate of pay for this CUPE position is $23.44 - $27.45 per hour (5 steps, 2019 rates) plus
benefits. The hours of work are Monday to Friday (one week of days 6:00am ??? 2:00pm; one week of afternoons 2:00pm ??? 10:00pm; one week of nights Sunday to Thursday 10:00pm ??? 6:00am; rotating); Non-standard hours and/or non-standard work week.
