The City of Abbotsford???s Parks & Facilities Department is seeking a hard-working, self-motivated Co-op Student for a four month Parks Planning and Design Co-op position from September to December 2019.
The City of Abbotsford is a growing, dynamic and diverse community with over 140,000 people. The Parks, Recreation and Culture department is a cornerstone of this vibrant and complete community. We contribute to the economic vibrancy of the City and foster environmental appreciation and social responsibility. We take pride in building and nurturing cultural vitality in the City by bringing together diverse interests, experiences and traditions from across the cultural landscape. The City is in the process of implementing the 2018 Parks, Recreation and Culture Master Plan, including the creation of an Urban Forestry strategy and Park Master Plans.
Job duties may include:
??? Create schematic and detailed landscape architectural design for parks, trails, and open space ;
??? Participate in the preparation of graphics, 3D renderings, public engagement, and presentations;
??? Research, site analysis, and mapping; and
??? Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
??? Currently enrolled in a landscape architecture, landscape architectural technology, or environmental design program at a recognized post-secondary institution;
??? Knowledge of background review work including site analysis, design research, precedent study, surveys, zoning and planning studies;
??? Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
??? Good time management and organizational skills, and an ability to prioritize tasks within a constantly evolving workflow;
??? An interest in being involved in and learn the skills necessary for park projects - from schematic design through construction drawings
??? Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, and Sketch-Up;
??? Proficiency using AutoCAD to prepare drawings under the guidance of the Manager of Park Planning and Infrastructure;
??? A Class 5 BC driver???s license (or equivalent);

The hourly rate of pay for this position is as follows plus an additional 4% in lieu of benefits:
??? 1st year student $16.51
??? 2nd year student $18.07
??? 3rd year student $19.51
??? 4th year student $21.23
