The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for a Temporary Full-Time Arts and Heritage Educator (from approx. September 30, 2019 to approx. October 9, 2020) to join our team of professionals in the Arts, Culture and Community Initiatives Division, Cultural Program and Services Department.

Reporting to the Director Arts, Culture and Community Initiatives, or their designate, in this unionized position you will be responsible for planning, developing and supervising the implementation of arts and heritage programming at various sites and facilities for program-specific audiences. You will work with teachers to develop and implement curriculum specific programs and perform necessary research. In this position you will also be responsible for supervising a staff of trained volunteers, contract workers and unionized employees as well as developing operations budgets for assigned program areas. You will establish and maintain effective communication with schools, community groups, and arts and heritage societies to obtain use of facilities, determinate community needs, explain services and obtain feedback to maximize community access to the arts and heritage programs of the Township of Langley.

Your education will include University graduation with a degree in education, history, fine arts, museology, anthropology, environmental science, cultural resources management, Canadian Studies, or a related discipline. Considerable related experience including one year of supervisory experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of the principles, practices, philosophy and objectives of programming in museums, art galleries, heritage properties, archives, interpretative centres, performing arts venues and arts centres as well as considerable knowledge of the needs and interests of the community served and of arts and culture resources in the municipality and principles, philosophy and objectives of arts and culture programming as it relates to the work performed is necessary.

This position is defined by the Township of Langley as a position of trust (Child Safety). The successful candidate(s) will be required to have a Police Information Check as a condition of employment (Note - Not required as part of the application process, however will be required upon consideration for employment).

The CUPE rate of pay for this position is $33.60 - $39.56 per hour (5 steps, 2019 rates), plus 13% in lieu of benefits. The hours of work are 7 continuous hours per day from Tuesday to Saturday; non-standard hours and/or non-standard work week.
