The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for a regular full-time Telecommunications Operator I to join our team of professionals in the Protective Services - RCMP Division; Telecommunications Section.

Reporting to the Telecommunications Supervisor - RCMP, in this unionized position you will be responsible for receiving a variety of emergency police calls and general inquiries by telephone. The position receives enquiries and answers general counter enquiries of a non-emergency nature, receives the necessary information and relays the information to appropriate departments for further action.

Your education will include completion of grade 12 or an equivalent standing attained through practical experience and related training. You will have experience in general office or clerical work, preferably in law enforcement, a public safety communications area, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. You have sound knowledge of departmental functions, regulations and working knowledge of law enforcement objectives, statutes/bylaws and of the streets and major commercial, industrial and residential areas within the community. Working knowledge of technical language, clerical and recordkeeping methods and procedures used in the department is necessary. The position will process a large volume of enquiries and the successful candidate will have the ability to communicate tactfully and effectively with the public and exercise sound judgement for quick and accurate conclusions. A minimum typing speed of 35 words per minute is required.

Enhanced Reliability Status is required. (Note - Not required as part of the application process, however will be required upon consideration for employment).

The CUPE rate of pay for this position is $25.31 - $29.74 per hour (5 steps, 2019 rates), plus benefits. The hours of work are one week of Monday ??? Wednesday 7:30am ??? 3:30pm and Thursday ??? Friday 3:30pm ??? 11:30pm rotating with one week of Monday ??? Wednesday 3:30pm ??? 11:30pm and Thursday ??? Friday 7:30am ??? 3:30pm; non-standard hours and/or non-standard work week.
