The Township of Langley is currently recruiting a temporary full-time (from approximately October 14, 2019 to approximately October 15, 2021) Engineering Technician (Building Energy) to join our team of professionals in the Community Development Division; Permit, Licence and Inspection Services Department.

Reporting to the Assistant Chief Inspector, and working day to day with the Building Energy Manager, in this unionized position you will be working with the Township???s building energy related policies such as the Energy Step Code, as well as other green building programs to further enhance the building code compliance process for energy efficiency in both new and existing construction. We are seeking someone who is sustainably-minded and has experience coordinating and completing energy modelling audits specific to new construction. The position will liaise with municipal staff by assisting in conducting plan reviews, policy development and on-site inspections for construction compliance, as well as developing and delivering training to external and internal stakeholders.

A successful candidate will review and prepare technical reports on Community Development topics including plans and specifications related to energy efficiency for construction, as well as perform technical work in analysis, design, calculations and documentation for construction projects that will involve energy modelling, and related policies. The successful candidate will conduct field investigations and inspections on construction projects as required and perform related work as required. You will also perform work and respond to inquiries from internal and external stakeholders and the general public.

Your education will include graduation from an Institute of Technology with a Diploma in Civil and Structural Technology, or related field, Post-Secondary education in engineering, architecture or building technology (building science) is preferred. You will have knowledge of current methodologies and design/construction practices in architecture, engineering, building envelope, and energy modeling; Training and/or certification in the following modelling disciplines would be an asset: EnerGuide for New Homes (EnergyStar, R2000, NetZero, Passive House), EnerGuide for Existing Homes, EnerGuide for Multi-Unit Residential Buildings, BC Energy Step Code; and have a sound understanding of current building code requirements (BC Energy Step Code), inclusive of ASHRAE 90.1 and the National Energy Code for Buildings (NECB). You will have ability to review, analyze, assess and interpret plans and specifications, the ability to deal effectively, and maintain cooperative working relationships with a wide variety of internal and external contacts. You will also have the ability to prepare and maintain reports, records, correspondence and various other materials related to the work.

The rate of pay for this CUPE position is $32.25 - $37.97 per hour (5 steps, 2019 rates), plus 13% in lieu of benefits. The hours of work are Monday to Friday, 8:30am ??? 4:30pm.
