The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for a regular part-time Recreation Worker IV – Lifeguard/Instructor to join our team of professionals in the Parks and Recreation Division; Recreation Programs and Services Department. The focus of this position is to provide lifeguarding functions as well as instructional duties for a variety of aquatic programs.
Reporting to the Community Recreation Manager, you will be responsible in this unionized position for performing lifeguarding duties, ensuring the safety of patrons utilizing the aquatic facility and supervising the use of the swimming and related recreation areas. You will perform custodial and janitorial duties, as well as schedule maintenance tasks with respect to pool water, facilities and equipment such as filters.
Your education will include completion of Grade 10, preferably completion of Grade 12. You will have group leadership experience and techniques emphasizing instruction in water, safety and aquatic skills. You have the ability to establish sound aquatic skills and instruct at the standards set by appropriate authorities and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with officials, employees and patrons is a requirement.
Candidates may be required to attend a mandatory assessment general meeting and a skills screening session.
This position is defined by the Township of Langley as a position of trust (Child Safety) and requires a police information check prior to employment start date.

• National Lifeguard Pool certification

• Successful candidates must be a minimum of 17 years
The rate of pay for this CUPE position is $23.44 - $27.45 per hour (5 steps, 2019 rates); $23.91 - $28.00 per hour (5 steps, 2020 rates); plus benefits. The hours of work are Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 3:30pm – 10:30pm; Wednesday 3:30pm – 7:30pm; Sunday 9:00am – 2:00pm; non-standard hours and/or non-standard work week.
