AbbyPD understands that gang violence affects all communities within the Lower Mainland. In an effort to combat gang violence, the Gang Prevention Coordinator will build relationships between communities, determine best practices, and help establish common goals. This position will work towards creating a cross-jurisdictional and cohesive community engagement approach, in alignment with provincial and regional gang enforcement strategies.
Duties: Main responsibilities:

???Foster and channel community activism by working with federal and municipal policing partners, community groups, religious groups, the School District, and other municipalities;

???In partnership with the School District, Community Services and other educational organizations, develop and provide programs to educate and assist parents in identifying and disrupting behaviours consistent with gang involvement;

???Engage with AbbyPD???s Gang Unit and Youth Squad to identify at-risk youth and families for intervention;

???Develop and implement community-based programs for at-risk youths to provide positive pathways away from gang life; and

???Through community contacts, encourage and facilitate communication between the public and police.
Skill Requirements: You are a self-motivated individual with the right combination of passion, skills and dedication to engage, challenge and guide the public and AbbyPD???s partners towards the goal of ending gang violence. You must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including tact, diplomacy, and the ability to liaise effectively with both staff and external stakeholders. You will have a background in law enforcement and experience in establishing and maintaining respectful and positive community relations. You will also be fluent in English and Punjabi. Flexibility to work varied hours is also a must.
