The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for a regular full-time Environmental Coordinator II to join our team of professionals in the Engineering Division; Water Resources and Environment Department. Reporting to the Manager, Water Resources and Environment, in this unionized position you will be responsible for implementing and coordinating environmental protection and quality related to municipal works projects, developments and adaptive management strategies.

Responsibilities:
??? Formulate draft environmental objectives and policy including the design, implementation and evaluation of environmental programs
??? Perform site inspections, ensure compliance with environmental requirements for capital works projects and approve development applications and construction plans
??? Provide technical expertise, advice and guidance on environmental matters, including regulatory and other requirements of senior levels of government
??? Coordinate and expedite the processing and approval of environmental authorization applications through regulatory agencies
??? Prepare and develop project information and plans for internal contacts, environmental regulatory agencies and interest/stakeholder groups
??? investigate environmental complaints, perform testing and provide expert advice related to spills, unauthorized discharges and environmental emergencies
??? Coordinate community engagement activities designed to raise awareness and impact change
??? Develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with community stewardship groups, not for profit agencies, other municipalities, government agencies, developers and stakeholders
??? Perform other related work, as required

Qualifications:
??? Undergraduate or post graduate degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, or a related discipline
??? Registration or eligibility for registration in a professional association related to the work, plus some professional experience in environmental management, or an equivalent combination of training and experience
??? Considerable knowledge of the practices, principles and procedures used and of the legislation, policies and regulations governing environmental land use and development
??? Recent experience with and the ability to navigate provincial and federal regulatory environmental approval processes for in-stream works projects
??? Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, enthusiasm and the ability to communicate effectively with the public and a variety of stakeholders is essential
??? Ability to prepare reports and recommendations on environmental aspects, extensive computer familiarity with proficiency in visual presentations and spreadsheets is required
??? Considerable independence of judgement combined with a solid education and experience from a technical and scientific perspective, and demonstrated project management skills
??? Experience in municipal government will be considered an asset

The CUPE rate of pay for this position is $43.90 - $51.87 per hour (5 steps, 2020 rates) plus benefits. The hours of work are Monday to Friday 8:30am ??? 4:30pm. Some evening and weekend work may be required.
