The Township of Langley is recruiting for a temporary full-time Indigenous Arts and Culture Curator (from approx. November 30, 2020 to December 1, 2023) to join our team of professionals in the Arts, Culture and Community Initiatives Division. Reporting to the Cultural Services Manager, in this unionized position you will plan, develop and produce exhibitions and related programs in our community. In this position, you will maintain and care for the Indigenous art, artefacts and archaeological collections that the museum holds in trust.

Responsibilities:
??? Plan, develop, implement and evaluate the department???s museum and exhibition programs and extension exhibition programs
??? Accession, catalogue, index and store the collection of artefacts, specimens, fine art and archival materials related to indigenous culture
??? Conduct research into local history and prehistory and provide reference services to researchers
??? Develop material for publication and assist in the planning, development and implementation of arts and cultural programs at various sites and facilities throughout the community
??? Establish and maintain effective communication with local First Nations, Indigenous and community cultural groups, arts and culture societies, primary/secondary schools, universities and colleges, professional colleagues and others, as required
??? Develop operating budgets for assigned activity areas and prepare grant/scholarship applications
??? Perform related work as required

Qualifications:
??? Education will include university graduation with a degree in Indigenous Studies, Anthropology, Archaeology, Fine Arts, Museology, Cultural Resource Management, or other related disciplines, experience working with First Nations Communities, Indigenous Groups and People or an equivalent combination of curatorial training, education and experience
??? Considerable knowledge of the principles, practices, philosophy and objectives to museums, art galleries, archives and heritage conservation, as they relate to the work performed
??? Considerable knowledge of the methods, practices and techniques used in the acquisition, identification, documentation, conservation, exhibition and interpretation of museum artefacts, specimens, art works and archival materials
??? Considerable knowledge of the procedures, legislation, methods and practices applicable to the preservation of cultural heritage
??? Considerable knowledge of Indigenous repatriation principles and of British Columbian Indigenous archaeological and ethnographic collections
??? Considerable knowledge of historical and contemporary Indigenous arts and culture
??? Previous museum experience will be considered an asset

This position is defined by the Township of Langley as a Position of Trust (Child Safety). The successful candidate will be required to have a Police Information Check as a condition of employment (Note - not required as part of the application process, however will be required upon consideration for employment).

The CUPE rate of pay for this position is $34.27 - $40.35 per hour (5 steps, 2020 rates) plus 13% in lieu of benefits. The hours of work are Tuesday to Saturday 8:30am ??? 4:30pm; non-standard hours and non-standard work week.
