Job Description: Reporting to the Manager, Utilities, the Drainage Manager is an essential role responsible for the administration, leadership, and operations of the Engineering department???s Drainage Section.
Duties: ??? Apply your extensive drainage knowledge to manage and maintain the City???s existing drainage infrastructure, including its natural components of creeks, ditches, rivers, and coastal areas
??? Update and develop stormwater strategies and integrated stormwater management plans addressing water quantity and quality for greenfield and older neighbourhood development
??? Partner with Planning, land development, Engineer Operations, Parks, Environment and Fire to plan, evaluate and resolve drainage issues.
??? Review and manage the asset replacement strategy and integration with aged neighbourhoods
??? Manage flood relief and drainage system failures including large culvert failures, slope instabilities, and the design of new neighbourhood drainage systems.
??? Sit on regional and technical committees directing stormwater management and flood protection to help set City policy and direction.
??? Work collaboratively with City Departments to develop emergency management policies. This includes planning coordination.
??? Integrate climate change and climate adaptation into drainage asset renewals and City plans
??? Responding to public inquiries and concerns.
??? Utilize your specialized technical expertise to administer and prepare policies and bylaws related to drainage systems. Ensure applicable Bylaw compliance.
??? Lead a team of skilled employees in a unionized environment.
??? Assesses the big picture to align engineering activities to the strategic direction of the department and City.
??? Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all stakeholders including Council, staff, community groups and the public.
Educational Requirements: ??? Bachelor???s Degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on water resources or a related Engineering discipline
??? Professional Engineering (P.Eng) designation; or eligible for registration with APEGBC
??? A minimum of 10 years relevant experience. Experience in a municipality is considered a strong asset.
??? Experience managing a team, preferably in a unionized workforce.
??? A valid and unrestricted driver???s license is required.
??? Excellent interpersonal and communication skills that enable you to achieve positive outcomes and build relationships.
??? An innovative thinker with the ability to anticipate, identify and manage emerging issues and challenges, and help identify and implement solutions while monitoring results.
??? An equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.
