Job Description: The Fraser Valley Regional District is a local government that delivers over 100 services to residents living in our eight electoral areas and six-member municipalities. We are the third most populous regional district in BC, stretching from Abbotsford to Boston Bar. The Fraser Valley offers a great place to work and live with a mix of rural and urban lifestyles along with an abundance of recreational and cultural opportunities.

We have an exciting and challenging opportunity for an energetic individual to fill the full-time, time-duration position of FireSmart Coordinator. The term for this position is from June 2021 to June 2022.

Under the direction of the Manager of Protective Services, the successful candidate will be responsible for the coordination of initiatives under the Fraser Valley Regional District???s Community Wildfire Protection Plans throughout the Electoral Areas., including wildfire preventative programs and educational awareness campaigns as detailed through the Province of BC???s FireSmart initiative. This role offers the opportunity to make a difference in communities while helping to determine the feasibility of future services and programs. The candidate will maintain strong and effective working relationships with stakeholders and external agencies, and will act as a liaison, as appropriate, to the provincial and federal governments. Critical thinking and strong communication, as well as a keen desire to learn and lots of initiative will serve you well in this position.
Skill Requirements: ?? A degree in Forestry, Environmental Sciences, Environmental Engineering or Civil Engineering with a good understanding of and experience working with wildfire prevention initiatives, or equivalent combination of education and experience;
?? Experience in local government service delivery and practices is preferred, and knowledge of legislation, policies and procedures pertaining to fire and wildfire services, would be an asset;
?? Experience in public promotion, and managing projects, conducting research and feasibility studies is required;
?? Strong communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to express thoughts and ideas clearly, and converse with a wide range of people including technical consultants, elected officials, senior staff, line staff and the general public to provide advice, make recommendations and make effective presentations;
?? Excellent writing skills, with the ability to write in a clear and concise manner, and to prepare well written technical and administrative reports;
?? Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with consultants, contractors, stakeholders, senior staff, co-workers, team members, elected officials, advisory bodies and the public;
Salary: The start rate for this full-time Union position is $33.68 per hour plus 10.6 percent in lieu of benefits. Upon successful completion of the required 840 hour probationary period, the wage will increase to $39.62 per hour plus 10.6 percent in lieu of benefits.
